THE City Prosecutors Office of Bacolod dismissed on Wednesday the large-scale estafa charge filed by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) against the eight members of Voice for Global Solution on Poverty Association Inc (VOGSOPAI).
ReplyDeleteBut the eight are still facing chargers for violation of Article168 of the Revised Penal Code or possession and illegal use of false treasury bank notes.
In his three page decision, inquest prosecutor Emmanuel Lope Lupisan found no probably cause on the large-scale estafa complaint filed against Altres De Dios, 33, the alleged prince, president and CEO of VOGSOPAI, a resident of Subic, Zambales.
His co-accused who were likewise released were Eustaquio Mejo Jr., 38, VP for treasury of the said organization and resident of Olongapo City, and their members Gregorio Deslate Jr., 61; Lina Deslate, 58; Jesus Montales, 61; Lucero Dolores, 61; and Carmela Umadhay, 42, all of Iloilo City; and Vicenta Garcia, 59, of Cagayan.
However, the inquest prosecutor found probable cause on the charge for violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or possession and illegal use of false treasury bank notes and recommended a bail of P6,200 for their temporary liberty.
The eight members posted their bail Wednesday afternoon and they were released from the lock up cell of Station 7.
The eight members were recently arrested in entrapment operation by operatives of Special Operations Group (SOG), Investigation Detective and Management Branch (IDMB) and Intelligence Branch in Barangya Alijis.
BCPO Director Senior Supt. Ricardo De la Paz earlier said the operation of the suspects is part of a nationwide scam which solicits money from their recruits in exchange of the promise of much greater financial returns.
He said the suspects told the members that they should give P120 in exchange of grandiose benefits, such as free house and lot, electricity and education. The group, later, will also add an additional requirement or ask the recruit to pay an additional fee in order to avail of the benefit.
He added the suspects also issued a stub of checks in exchange of P2,000 for each member with the promise that by December 23, 2012, there will be a proclamation in the country that the chairman of VOGSPAI will be the king of the Philippines while their president, Altres, will be the prince.
The proclamation will allegedly appoint President Benigno Aquino III as the prime minister of the country.
The city director said the suspects also assured their members that, through the checks issued to them, they will receive P10 million each through the Central Bank of the Philippines by December 23.
During the entrapment operations, police recovered from them P30,000 marked money, 135 stubs of false treasury bank notes and tarpaulin.
De la Paz said the Central Bank of the Philippines also confirmed that the check books of the suspects were not registered in said bank.
The group of De Dios yesterday held a press conference at the Negros Press Club, claiming that all the accusations against them are not true.
De Dios also accused the local media as being biased against them which resulted to negative reaction from the members of the media who attended the press conference.
But De Dios also said sorry to the media, claiming that it’s not his intention to offend the local media.
He stressed that they will pursue their scheduled proclamation of their king and queen on their “targeted date” on December 23, adding that their incarceration had caused delays on their scheduled activities which will be held in Araneta Center in Metro Manila.
On the other hand, SOG P/Supt. Santiago Rapiz yesterday said he will resign from the service if the millions of pesos promised by leaders of VOGSOPAI to their members come to reality.
Rapiz said he will give the VOGSOPAI until the end of this year to prove that they are for real and not a scam group.
He said he also doubts if the scheduled for proclamation of their King and Queen on December 23 will push through.
